Beware of the BFF Swap!

June 16, 2010 at 10:00AM by Gennifer Delman |

You've seen her in the hallways, in AP history, and at student council meetings. She's your grade's social butterfly and she's constantly linked to a new BFF. What's her deal? Girls like her aren't just at school but in Hollywood, too. Whether it's Demi and Miley or Demi and Selena, there is a name for this behavior and it's called the BFF swap. These girls do it for different reasons, and it's important that you keep an eye out for the signs so you don't fall victim. Read on:

Revenge and Jealousy

These acts are so intertwined. Remember when Demi recently snapped back to a reporter who asked how Selena was? "Ask Taylor!" she said. Some young ladies need to act out in order to make others jealous, so beware. If a new girl is latching on to you, be cautious. Though she may be sincere, observe her behavior and make a wise judgment.

In high school, I can recall one girl who edited her MySpace "Top 8" so much that I couldn't keep track. Though it's cool to dabble in different circles, a best friend ought to be a constant in your life. Some thrive off of being the center of attention, and this could mean alternating their social circles to make sure the spotlight is never away from them.

Some Words of Advice

It's essential that you don't confuse the BFF swap with making new friends. If your mate has been hanging around with a new coworker at a job that doesn't mean that they're abandoning you! So if you ever feel left out, speak up. Speak at a normal volume and express that your friend's actions are hurting you. This will be better than avoiding the situation; your feelings will only grow more intense and complicate things.

Do you know someone constantly changing their BFF? Do YOU do it? Start the conversation in the comments section!

Rent the Runway Lets You "Borrow" Designer Dresses for Prom!

June 11, 2010 at 10:25AM by Gemma Resaba |

Prom Dress Spenderella

Prom season is here and it's time to live out your Cinderella fantasies!  Rent the Runway is an amazing site (and your new fairy godmother) that has a ton of great prom dresses available to rent for the night at 90 percent off! We swear this is real and not a hoax!

Rent the Runway was founded by two women (both named Jennifer) who met and created the site while attending Harvard Business School. The site gives users access to rent current season designer dresses and jewelry at a fraction of the price! You can get red-carpet style and experiment with different looks and brands without worrying about breaking the bank. Sweet, right?

Worried that the dress won't fit correctly once it arrives? Well, you have the option of choosing two different lengths so it will fit just right. You can choose between R-Regular if you are 5'4"-5'6" and L-Long for heights above 5'6". Rent the Runway also sends you a second size as a backup in whatever dress you order for free too!  They also provide a styling kit with essentials such as double-sided tape. You can even ask that they send you your dress in both lengths so that you can decide whether you want to rock your dress in flats or heels. We think that's a lot better than going to a tailor! Once prom is over, you just send back your gown in the prepaid envelope included in your order and that's it! So easy!

Use Rent the Runway for prom and any other formal event you have upcoming from weddings to Homecoming come back-to-school in the fall! We promise that you'll find a dream gown that your Prince Charming won't resist!

Are you going to try Rent the Runway? What other tricks do you know for getting designer dresses for less?

Les Grossman Gets His Own Movie Deal!

June 10, 2010 at 1:00PM by Lauren Brown |

Tom Cruise as Les Grossman

So, did you watch the 2010 MTV Movie Awards? Yes, we know that Team Edward, Team Jacob, and Justin Bieber all made swoon-worthy cameos. But let's get real — the best part of the night was every appearance by the legendary, foul-mouthed, tell-it-like-it-is show producer Les Grossman. We loved him in Tropic Thunder and he's currently taking credit for Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner's impressive careers. But, we can't forget how he upped the ante at the awards on Sunday night with a hot dance number featuring Jennifer Lopez and Ludacris. So, we're psyched about the news that came straight out of Hollywood last night. The life story of Les Grossman is being turned into a movie by Paramount Pictures and MTV Films!

Tom Cruise, along with Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld of Red Hour Films will produce and have secured the life rights to Grossman. Said Ben Stiller: "Les Grossman's life story is an inspiring tale of the classic human struggle to achieve greatness against all odds. He has assured me he plans to quote, 'F**king kill the sh*t out of this movie and make Citizen f**king Kane look like a piece of crap home movie by the time we are done.' I am honored to be working with him."

When asked what the screenplay was about Grossman responded: "To quote my great friend Kirk Lazarus, 'I don't read the script, the script reads me.'"

Whatever the script is about, we don't care because we know it's going to be absolutely hilarious! All hail Tom Cruise — you guys know that it's Tom underneath Les' fat suit, right?

Take Part in World Blood Donor Day

June 9, 2010 at 2:00PM by Tyler Rowell |

World Blood Donor Day

Did you know that every two seconds, someone needs blood? Sadly, less than 10 percent of Americans currently give blood. But, if just 1 percent more donated, the nation's blood shortages would disappear for the foreseeable future. So, we encourage you to take part in World Blood Donor Day on June 14th and extending through Sunday, June 20th.

Not only can you take part in a great cause, but you can look amazing while doing it too. Nexcare Brand bandages and America's Blood Centers are thanking donors with limited edition Nexcare Brand bandages. The collection of three Nexcare bandages are designed to signify the patriotic act and hero in every American who commits to saving lives by donating blood. And, of course the stylish band-aids create awareness for others to do the same! Perfect timing too since World Blood Donor Day actually begins on Flag Day.

Will you be donating blood for this great cause? Check out to find a local blood center, share your story, and register to receive coupons and a free sampling of bandages.

CG! Catches Up with Rooney!

June 8, 2010 at 12:13PM by Robin Monheit |

We're totally obsessed with Rooney's new video I Can't Get Enough, the first single off the Los Angeles power-pop quartet's new album Eureka — out TODAY. It's a little bit So You Think You Can Dance goes to the roller rink, a little bit trippy Saturday morning cartoons and a little '80s aerobic work-out video. It makes us want to strap on our roller-skates and party like it's our 9th birthday all over again.

We caught up with lead singer Robert Schwartzman and keyboardist Louie Stephens to talk about the new album, out-tweeting Ashton Kutcher and what it was like to go to high school with Spencer Pratt. (Um, eek!)

CosmoGirl: So we hear you made your new album Eureka in your house?

Robert Schwartzman: Yeah, it was really fun. It was definitely a new experience for us. We were all forced to be in a room and focus. The hardest part was picking songs and having to be critical of our own stuff. You have to be like, 'OK, I see why this doesn't work.'

CG: Were there any fights with four dudes, cooped up in a tiny studio together?

RS: The problem is there's no bad guy to help make the process easier. If someone said something that was against what the others wanted, they had to take the hit. There was a song called The Hunch and a song called Wild One that drummer Ned [Brower] and guitarist Taylor [Locke] wrote. Ned sang them — and there was a little bit of disagreement on which song stood out the most. At the end of the day one of them was on the EP and one was on the record.

CG: How do you stay upbeat about everything, when it gets hard and people are fighting?

Louie Stephens: The thing you have to do sometimes, that's really hard, is be honest with each other, even though it's not pretty. You're going to have to let it all out, put it all on the table. And then it actually makes things easier. You've got to say what you have to say.

CG: So are you guys into Twitter and Facebook stuff? Is that really you guys on there?

RS: Yes! I got Twitter crazy the other day. I was on a flight with Internet and we had three hours to go and I didn't have anything to do so I just started tweeting and I couldn't stop. I wouldn't be surprised if people hit 'unfollow.' I might have outtweeted Ashton Kutcher that day.

CG: Do you reply to fans?

RS: I always reply! I've been streaming on Ustream and answering questions via Twitter. A lot of people ask 'Do you know so and so?' Like, 'Do you know Joe Jonas?'

CG: Wait, but do you?

RS: Yeah, we do. I see Joe Jonas quite a bit. I live right next door to their backing band. And Demi [Lovato], of course. She's a minx!

CG: Who else is in your crew in L.A.?

LS: He's not in our crew, but I went to high school with Spencer Pratt. Everyone said the same thing that the public said about him in high school, before the show. Spencer is a villain. He got his eyelashes tinted when we were in high school. He's the first person I've ever known to do that. He did it to accentuate his eyes.

CG: You're on tour all summer...we want to know: Who's the one who doesn't shower?

RS: I can tell you who DOES shower. The drummer showers three times a day. He can't sleep unless he showers after every show. If there's no shower, he'll take water bottles and stand in a bucket, because he just has to get clean. He probably thinks it's awesome that he does it.

On that note, catch Rooney on tour this summer, with the Young Veins and Black Gold in June and July, and with Hanson starting July 21. You can get ALL the details by heading to Rooney’s official Website.

Have you checked out Rooney's latest album? Watch their latest video below and let us know what you think!

Cute Summer Updos!

June 8, 2010 at 10:00AM by Tonie Zamora |

Whitney Port Updo

For those of us who are constantly fighting frizz during the hot summer months, we found some super cute updos so you can look great while having fun in the sun. Check out our three personal faves.

The Messy Bun: Whitney Port's messy bun is so chic. She wears it on the red carpet but you can wear it out to a party or even to the beach! The messier the better. To get Whitney's look, just part your hair, pulls it back, pull a few pieces in the front to frame your face, and top it with an adorable, oversize headband if you want. So easy and so chic!

The Sleek Bun: Heidi Klum and Sarah Jessica Parker are often seen donning sleek and elegant buns. They're so appropriate for evening and it is guaranteed to show off your gorgeous face! To get SJP's look, just make a ponytail, braid the end, twist it up, and pin it. This is perfect if your hair is curly or extra frizzy.

The Retro Updo: They're an oldie but goody! Beyoncé is the queen of the retro bouffant. To get Beyoncé's look, just tease your hair at the top, use plenty of hair spray, and pin it up. Make sure you smooth down the pieces closest to your face for the retro inspired look. If your hair is not full enough, you can totally use a Bump It a la Snookie from the Jersey Shore!

What updos are you wearing this summer? What updos are you dying to try?

How to Mend a Broken Heart

June 4, 2010 at 12:00PM by Gennifer Delman |

Broken Heart Cookie

Whether you've ended a long-term relationship or a label-less fling, breakups are never fun. Time consuming and heart wrenching, it's too easy to dwell on the past and get caught up in what could have, should have, or would have been. To avoid these hang-ups and help you make a comeback, check out these tips:

Get Active!

Work out your frustrations and burn some calories at the same time. If you're a gym person, sign up for a pilates or spin class to turn up the heat. Engage in healthy intervals of cardio and weights and mix up your routine each time. Or, you can keep it simple just by going for a brisk walk with your dog or riding your bike. Create a master playlist and get your heart pumping! You'll be feeling and looking great in no time.

Write it out — then delete it.

We well know that even the smallest thing can trigger our emotions. You may find an old tee of his crumpled up in your drawer or revisit a cute text that you saved; any of these actions will bring up old feelings. Whichever emotion you're experiencing it's helpful to write it down. Pen an entry in a private diary or compose your thoughts in a text message and then hit "delete." That way you can metaphorically and quite literally throw out these feelings and start fresh. You may also get satisfaction out of typing out a text and then sending it to a BFF. That way you feel like you can press "send" and let go. No matter what, DO NOT send the text to HIM! You will regret it later.

Go out with the girls!

Watching an empowering movie with your big sis or engaging in some retail therapy with your BFF may be just what the doctor ordered to cure a broken heart. Splurge on a new designer bag or pick out a hot new LBD — just make sure the ladies in your life are there by your side.

How else do you mend a broken heart and move on? Share your secrets and stay strong!

Charity We Love: NoWorriesNow.Org

June 3, 2010 at 11:45AM by Lauren Brown |

Kimmy's World

With prom season in full swing, we just had to give props to an amazing nonprofit organization called No Worries Now. They give teens diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses the chance to forget their struggles for just one night and have their own, amazing prom. No Worries Now was founded by Southern California high school student Fred Scarf whose best friend passed away from a rare form of bone cancer before they were able to attend prom together. Shortly after, Fred founded the organization to ensure that all teens living with life-threatening illnesses have a chance to forget about their worries and attend the prom of their dreams.

This year's fourth annual prom is being held on June 18th, 2010 at Sony Pictures Studio in Culver City, CA. The theme is Lights Camera, Action! and it'll be a star-studded event! Celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck is catering, magicians and caricaturists are providing entertainment, and celebrities are even expected to stop by!

What we love even more is all the amazing pre-prom pampering the participants get to experience! There's a dressing suite that all the girls and guys get to visit in advance to try on dress and suits that are donated by celebrities. Kim Kardashian's online shoe society are donating prom shoes to each of the girl prom goers too. And, all the guests are invited to a "beauty suite" prior to the evening's festivities where volunteer celebrity hair, makeup, and nail artists will assist the prom goers in getting glammed up for their special night.

Get involved by clicking here at No Worries Now. What other charities warm your heart?
